Open-Face Barbute
The ever-hazy mists of time have obscured whether the Italians or Spanish
invented the barbute, but it's perfectly clear why it became popular
all over Europe. This helmet provided ample protection - in some cases
all the way to the shoulders - but the open face gave unencumbered vision,
and also allowed quick oxygen replenishment. Our 18-gauge steel version
is fitted with a leather liner and chinstrap to make it fully wearable.
Circumference is 27", overall height 12". Wt. 3 lbs. 10 oz.
A classical helmet for the medievalist.
