Samurai Swords

The Samurai warriors of Japan are revered as some of the most effective fighters in the history of the world. Part of the reverence is due to the awesome power of their weapons, usually known as the katana (long sword) and wakizashi (short sword). Many samurai fought with both, in the style known as hyoho niten ichi-ryu, or "Two Swords As One," which was created by the legendary samurai swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi.

Our samurai swords are handcrafted by Hanwei under the direction of the famous sword smith, Paul Chen. They are made of high-carbon steel, suitable for tameshigiri cutting, combat re-enactment, or simply as stunning display pieces.

Practical Series This section contains our Practical Series of samurai swords, designed to be fully effective katana, wakizashi, and tanto while keeping cost as low as possible. These swords' blades are forged of the same high-carbon steel and created with the same eye for precision, but some of the fittings (such as the tsubas or sayas) may not be as historically-accurate as other items in our Samurai Sword lines.	Daisho Historically, a samurai carried a daito (or katana) and a shoto (or wakizashi), or "long sword" and "short sword." This pair of weapons was called daisho. Samurai also occasionally carried a tanto, or knife, with which to commit seppuku. This section contains all our daisho sets, including those with matching tantos.

Tiger Elite Katana A version of our Tiger Katana with a broader, heavier blade for more effective cutting.	Musashi Elite Katana Replicated from a design by Miyamoto Musashi, Japan's most famous kensei or "Sword Saint." The Elite version of this sword has a heavier, wider blade for more effective cutting use.
Odachi This sword is huge! The o-dachi or no-dachi was a sword wielded by footmen against mounted warriors. (Even though the samurai were powerful warriors, it's very difficult to fight when you're pinned under a 2,000-pound animal!) Our high carbon steel odachi is fully functional (but please don't go hacking up horses with it!).	Reverse-Blade Katana A true sakabato or reverse-blade katana; a certain wandering ex-assassin would be proud to own this sword!
Ronin Katana Inspired by the story of the Forty-Seven Ronin, this blade blends a historical significance and modern technology into an excellent sword.	Oni Katana A sword decorated with oni, legendary monsters of Japan's mythology; this high-carbon steel katana is highly functional while remaining aesthetically pleasing.
Praying Mantis Katana This katana bears powerful praying mantis imagery; the creature has long been considered a symbol of potency and keen wits. Hand-forged of bainite steel and completely usable.
