Armor

People have sought to protect themselves from the swords, spears, and arrows of their enemies since very nearly the beginning of our history, which has led to an incredible amount of armor designs and styles. From the samurai's lamellar o-yoroi to the Viking's heavy mail hauberk, the knight's articulated plate armor, and the ancient Greek bronze cuirass, armor has been a widespread form of passive defense that has survived even into modern times.

Another form of protective gear is the shield, which also evolved alongside armor pieces in a huge variety. The wicker shields of African tribesmen, the knight's steel "heater" shield, the Norman teardrop-shaped kite shield, and the swashbuckling duelist's buckler shield are all examples of the evolution of this ever-present defensive device.

Here at Silvermane, we offer a variety of styles of both armor and shields, including leather armor, mail shirts and haubergeons, and suits of plate armor both decorative and wearable.

Padding & GambesonsPadding & Gambesons
A selection of gambesons, arming jackets, and other padded garments for wear under armor. The armored warrior of the past knew well the value of padding: though mail or a steel plate would stop a sword from cutting him, it would transfer the force of the impact directly into him if it weren't properly padded.
Armor PiecesArmor Pieces
A selection of specific pieces of armor, such as breastplates, pauldrons, and gauntlets.
HelmsHelms
Our selection of head protection, from the knight's great helm to the archer's war hat to the samurai's kabuto.
ShieldsShields
One of the warrior's most valued possessions was his shield. In ancient Greece, warriors leaving home for battle were told to return home "with their shields or on them," indicating that warriors who dropped their shields to run from combat were dishonored.
BrigandineBrigandine
This style of armor is also called "coat of plates," featuring a layer of armor plates sandwiched between two layers of leather. (The originals would have used iron or steel plates; ours uses aluminum for lighter weight and better maneuverability.)
Armor Care ProductsArmor Care Products
A selection of polishes, rust removers, and other products designed to help you care for your armor and keep it looking (and performing!) its best.
Suits of ArmorSuits of Armor
Here we have a number of complete sets of armor of varying styles, time periods, and cultures. Some are intended only for decorative use, but a few sets are fully wearable!
