The grip is long enough to be grasped with a mail mitten or gauntlets, and the round guard and butt lock it securely in the hand. Many rondels had plain dagger blades, but this compact type has a thick, strong-fullered blade that ends with a reinforced tip for punching through mail and finding the small, unprotected areas of armor.
